Hypertext Markup Language. A language for formatting hyperlinked text documents which is used to publish information in the World-Wide-Web. Development and standardization of this language, which also allows the integration of non-textual elements (e.g. graphical images) into a document, is done by W3C.
A text document with references linking parts of this document to other parts of the same document or even other documents. By selecting and activating a referring link, a reader of such a document is able to access these corresponding documents.
